They love getting their pictures done plus they are beautiful (and FREE) models!  Auntie Jessie (as I'm called) loves to take pictures and style these two little ladies. We always do hair, nails, makeup and complete styled and coordinated outfits. Kian was awesome! We had a great time shooting especially with his dog and best buddy who I think also enjoyed getting his picture taken. There were a lot of photographers there that day, so it was difficult staying out of everyone's way while still getting the shots I wanted. No one was shooting by the small brick building at the front of the park so we started there. Wasn't my first choice in areas to shoot at, but I think those images turned out to be my favorites. Just goes to show you can take amazing images regardless of location, you just need to look for the beauty everywhere.

I found an antique school desk on craigslist and took a chance purchasing it, hoping people would like to book a themed back to school mini session. I took some antique books and a vintage globe from my own collection then brought a few extra props like apples and a diy chalkboard. Below are some of my favorite shots from the sessions! The session took place at the beautiful Zephyr Lodge in Liberty Lake where they had gotten married the previous year. We also took some family shots and a few of Valerie's parents who hadn't had a professional portrait done in over 10 years. Valerie even had the family color coordinate to the lodge itself (I LOVE that). They were all so great, we had a lovely shoot and even caught a gorgeous sunset towards the end.

We found a beautiful area in the Spokane Valley close to a wheat field for the session. It had been raining for most of the day so I brought an umbrella and looked for backup areas close by just in case. Fortunately, just as Ravon and Mike arrived the rain passed and amazingly a rainbow showed up for the start of their shoot. So, no, that is not a photoshopped effect, that's an actually freakin rainbow. I told them it had to be a good sign for their future. The rain also left some clouds behind and we got some stunning sunset shots too.

Took some graduation pictures for the beautiful Melinda, a design student grad and budding photographer. She is just so easy and fun to photograph, I'm having so much fun editing these images. Plus I got to try out two new locations that I've been eyeing for a while. A church with gorgeous white pillars and this empty building with aluminum siding that looked awesome once I added some speedlights.

I'm not one of those people who are always glued to their phone texting and ignoring the beauty of the world around them. I think it's incredibly rude to try to have a conversation with someone as their eyes glow blue from the screen inches from their face and every other word out of their mouth is "yeah" "uh huh". I despise paying good money to go to a concert (I'm short) and have a sea of people try to record videos and take pictures in front of me. I mean at least turn your damn flash off, it's not going to illuminate the massive stage 100 ft away from you.  That said I finally broke down and got my first smartphone a year ago, and well I have to admit, it has made my life a lot easier. I'm trying to get past my reservations as I know every photographer has to stay current and promote their work. I would rather just be in the field doing what I love then sitting on a computer. Unfortunately I can't pay anyone to do that for me yet, so I will do my best to get myself out of my comfort zone and blog, tweet, pin, post and...instagram? Okay, end first blog post and or rant.
